BMe Research Grant

08/26/2026

Our doctoral student, Ágoston Szesztay, has been awarded Third Prize in the BMe Research Grant, which supports the online presentation and dissemination of outstanding doctoral research.

His research focuses on bending-free structures, such as cable and arch structures, which can generally be highly material-efficient. At the same time, the requirement of eliminating bending often significantly restricts the freedom of form. The aim of his research is to systematically investigate the forms of structures with topologies and loading conditions commonly encountered in structural design, as well as to identify and describe topologies that allow structures to be freely shaped while maintaining a bending-free structural response. Among other applications, the results of the research may support the conceptual design of long-span roofs and bridge structures.

The context of the research, the related literature, and the results achieved so far can be explored here.

We warmly congratulate Ágoston on this achievement!
