About us
We consider our primary mission at the Department of Mechanics, Materials and Structures to be actively shaping research, education, professional practice and public life in the fields of mechanics and structural engineering. We prepare our students to recognise, understand and solve structural engineering problems encountered in architectural practice. Our aim is to develop the structural engineering skills required for architectural design and to provide the knowledge necessary for the structural design of buildings. As part of the architectural engineering programme, we provide students with the foundations of analytical thinking and help them develop their engineering intuition.
